Codex Seraphinianus Volume 1, Part 3 : Peda
Something truely unique about the world the Codex describes are the bipedal lifeforms described in the third chapter (which I have decided to call "peda," to mirror the "flora" and "fauna" sections.)Each creature in this section has what appears to be an example of their native habitat, with images of the animal in isolation, along with a page and a half of text (in the alien script) describing them.
All sorts of weird and wonderful creatures fall under the peda classification - creatures whose upper bodies consist of a small light emitting star, that appear to live in Venetian style gondalas, odd hunched over plumes of smoke, that live in junkyards, balls of string (shown here) that appear to tie themselves to each other (some kind of mating ritual?) and live in parks, and many more.
The final two pages of this chapter don't exhibit the same format as the rest of the desciptions - a pair of pages, each with a large illustration and five lines of descriptive text.
The left page shows a group of peda that look like giant green and yellow jelly beans wearing tracksuit trousers walking around under an assortment of neon signs. The right page shows the signs all lit up, which causes leopards to burst from the pedas' bean like bodies, leaving the trousers (and their trainers) left littering the ground where they fell.
