grapefruitopia is the personal homepage of Richard Munn (who, for reasons that are unlikely to become clear any time soon, prefers to go under the moniker of benjymous (with a lowercase B, which he is very particular about!)

Originally hosted on a free web provider back in 2001 (who were fairly useless, and had very restrictive bandwidth limits,) grapefruitopia became grapefruitopia.com at the end of January 2001, when it moved hosting to Domainbuster. However, Domainbuster were pretty useless, and the servers seemed badly managed (frequently running out of disk space despite the acount being under quota, then moving host without warning causing all manner of weird things to happen!)
Early 2004 it moved hosting again to Bytemark who provide a really great deal on User Mode Linux virtual machines.

The server runs Debian Linux and uses Apache for its web server. Most of the site is run by a collection of hand built cgi/perl scripts that dynamically generate and format content on the fly.
